Out of Hours Public Use of University Parking Facilities

RingGo car park charging during evenings and weekends in 4 University car parks will be introduced on Monday 19th May.

The central area car parks for out of hours and weekend parking are:

  • St Leonard’s, Holyrood
  • Maltings, Chambers Street
  • 40 George Square/Appleton Tower
  • Hunter Building, Lauriston Place

Locations of University car parks can be found here: City | Transport and Parking

Public members requiring usage of these University parking facilities out of the University core business hours can use RingGo, the UK’s no.1 parking app, to pay for your parking at University of Edinburgh parking locations, outside of regular university office hours.

Parking during the hours of 04:00 – 17:59 Monday to Friday is for authorised permit holders only, and you will not be able to pay with RingGo during these hours. Any unauthorised parking during this time may leave you liable for a PCN. For more information, see the University's parking policy at: University of Edinburgh Parking Regulations.

For a detailed list of places where you can pay to park locally with RingGo, please either see the RingGo app or visit the RingGo website here.

How to use RingGo

  1. Download the free RingGo app - go to the App Store or Google Play Store and search for RingGo.
  2. Set up an account by registering a few details so the next time you want to park, you can pay in seconds.
  3. When you park in an area where RingGo is offered, you need to:
    1. Confirm your vehicle registration number (with no spaces).
    2. Enter the five or six-digit location number shown on local signs. For example, the location code at the Maltings Car Park is 58151.
    3. Select how long you want to stay.
    4. Confirm your payment details.
  4. If your parking is running out, you can extend the time wherever you are by using the RingGo app. Select your current parking session from the sessions tab and the app will ask how long you want to extend by. Choose a time, confirm and your parking is sorted.
  5. After you have downloaded the free RingGo app and registered to use the service, you can also pay to park in tens of thousands of RingGo locations across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

Alternatively, you can watch the tutorial on YouTube.
